Control and Restraint Training

There are many employees who may, in the course of their duties, come across aggressive or agitated people who need to be restrained and controlled for their own and others safety or who need to be broken away from so that you can retreat to a place of safety.

This training is not about confrontational or direct conflict but is about using psychology to ‘talk down’ the aggressor and if that fails restraint tactics to control them in a safe manner.

For those who are the subject of aggression it will teach how to talk down the aggressor or to break away safely if you are the victim of assault or aggression.

This training places significant emphasis on health & safety from both a legislative point of view and for the delegates own safety.

There are many considerations to be taken into account when instructing and at the conclusion of the course the candidates will have an understanding of:

  • The legal framework surrounding control & restraint.
  • When, through using theoretical and practical training, to be able to assess when to apply restraint and which technique to use
  • To be able to use verbal and visual commands to assist in the control and de-escalation of the situation.
  • Knowing the limitations of restraint and what is ‘appropriate’ for the circumstances and the degree of threat and aggression
  • How to work in a team in the controlling and escorting of individuals
  • How to apply the correct & safest way to defend yourself from a variety of wrist & body grabs whilst standing, seated behind a desk, in a bed situation, and whilst in a car for those working in the community.
  • Know the quickest & safest escape from strangles.
  • How to apply an effective stance to counter perceived imminent aggression.
  • Assess, & use your environment, including furniture and clothing, to work simple defence strategies and the quickest possible escape route, to minimise confrontation.

All our courses require active participation from course delegates and are presented in an informal but professional manner so that delegates can relax, participate fully and enjoy the learning experience.
